Does Maryland allow telehealth for medical cannabis certifications?
Yes. Maryland allows licensed physicians to certify patients for medical cannabis via telemedicine, including first-time patients. No in-person visit is required.
Is adult-use cannabis legal in Maryland?
Yes. Maryland legalized adult-use cannabis in July 2023. Medical patients still benefit from: lower purchase taxes, higher possession limits, access to medical-only products, and the ability to purchase from licensed dispensaries with your MMCC card.
How much does a Maryland medical cannabis card cost?
The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) charges $25 per year for a patient registration card. This is separate from the physician evaluation fee.
How long does it take to get a Maryland medical cannabis card?
After uploading your certification and paying the $25 fee at mmcc.maryland.gov, your MMCC patient card arrives within approximately 1 week. You may be able to use your certification at some dispensaries while waiting — check with the dispensary.
