About PTSD and Medical Cannabis

PTSD is an explicitly named qualifying condition under Washington's RCW 69.51A. Thousands of Washington residents — including veterans, first responders, and survivors of trauma — have pursued medical marijuana evaluations to explore additional symptom management options. Our physicians conduct trauma-informed evaluations in a judgment-free environment.

Why Patients with PTSD Seek a Medical Cannabis Evaluation

Patients with PTSD frequently report sleep disruption, hyperarousal, and anxiety as their most debilitating symptoms. Many who have not found complete relief through conventional therapy or medication seek a medical cannabis evaluation as an additional option. Research into cannabinoids and PTSD symptom management — particularly sleep and anxiety — is among the most active areas of cannabis science. Your physician can discuss the current evidence at your appointment.

What to Expect at Your Evaluation

Your physician will conduct a trauma-informed evaluation. You do not need to relive your experiences in detail. The appointment covers your PTSD diagnosis or symptom history, current treatments, and what you're hoping to address. Veterans are welcome — VA records or a DD-214 can be helpful but are not required.

What to bring: Valid Washington State ID or driver's license (required). Medical records related to your ptsd are helpful but optional.

Common Questions About PTSD and Medical Cannabis

Do I need a formal PTSD diagnosis?

A formal diagnosis is helpful but not strictly required. Your physician will evaluate your reported symptoms and history. Washington's qualifying conditions include PTSD and anxiety disorders.

Is cannabis safe with my current PTSD medications?

Our physicians are knowledgeable about medication interactions. Bring a complete list of your current medications and supplements and we'll review them at your appointment.

Are you familiar with veteran-specific situations?

Yes. We work with many veteran patients and understand the landscape of VA healthcare and service-connected disability documentation.

Will getting an MMJ card affect my VA benefits or federal employment?

Cannabis remains a Schedule I substance under federal law. We strongly recommend speaking with your VA provider or an attorney about implications for federal employment or benefits before obtaining an authorization.
